An Open Letter to the Western World About Kundalini
Kundalini is no joke. It deserves respect, reverence and care.
I am not writing this to scare people off their kundalini practice, or to doom and gloom anyone, because for all the intense and scary things that kundalini can bring on, it can bring equally beautiful and mystical experiences, feelings, and sensations.
Kundalini is literally the life force that enables us to create worlds.
It is pure healing, sexual, creative energy.
It is the most potent, magical gift that we have at our disposal - connecting us to our divinity, our Creator consciousness and our ancient, alien lineages.
I often teach around - and will write many, many more articles surrounding - the joys of kundalini and how to harness this raw creative life force, but this article is not that.
I feel I really need to say this, because not enough people do… as wonderful, potent and magical as kundalini is (and as a kundalini awakening can be) - it is not a force to be played with lightly.
It is powerful (quite literally the raw electrical current that births entire universes into existence, to give you an idea of the sheer volume of power that it possesses in its rawest form).
So powerful, that it can wreak all sorts of havoc on your body and mental well being if you have not been adequately physically prepared for it and are not equipped with the resources to mentally deal with it (aka, the support, guidance, knowledge, information you might need along the way when it is doing its thing in the process of stirring and awakening within you).
So here it goes, and again, I need to reiterate I am not trying to scare anyone or turn you off your kundalini practice. It’s just important to be aware of what some of the repercussions of a kundalini awakening can be.
This article I wrote here goes into some more depth about the symptoms you might experience - but without further ado:
A warning to those trying to rouse Kundalini without adequate preparation or guidance
This is a warning, to all of those trying to rouse it with yoga, meditation, or whatever other means. Because they think it’s ‘trendy’ or ‘hip’. Because it’s a buzzword. Because they seek out enlightenment, or the special gifts it unlocks.
Whatever the reason is, you should never forcefully or purposefully attempt to wake it.
Unless it awakens spontaneously (like it did me) you are probably not ready for it. Even then, you are probably not ready for it.
The raw, unmanaged current of the electricity that will pass through your body has the potential to literally fry your brain, scramble your systems, and leave you unable to walk. It can leave you in psychosis and put you in a mental hospital.
The purification and purging process that kundalini brings on can be intense
I have spent entire days on the floor of my bedroom, sobbing, writhing, and my body contorting into all sorts of crazy shapes. I have felt it blast through energy centers of my body, literally tearing from me any blockages that are there.
Yes, it is as painful as it sounds. I have felt surges of electricity shoot through my body that I know could probably kill someone. I’ve found myself clutching my chest, clutching my stomach – feeling the surge of heat and electricity like a knife stabbing into my organs.
You never get a warning when these intense experiences will come on
I’ll be at the gym, and it’ll get spontaneously activated between sets. Someone will say something, and it’ll land in my body, and my kundalini will get set off. I will be doing a quiet meditation with the aim of relaxing and my kundalini will get set off. I’ve found myself post-coitus, feeling my abdomen pulsing furiously, burping involuntarily and trying to hide it from my partner because the orgasm has stirred my kundalini.
Yes, the mystical experiences that it also brings are beyond words. They are literally mind-blowing. I have experienced things that I am not even going to attempt to describe, due to my kundalini moving its way up towards my higher chakras. But there are other ways to reach these states that are much safer, and are much less like playing Russian Roulette with your body and your mind.
Be safe. Be smart.
If you are going through a kundalini rising, do your research and enlist the help of someone who is equipped to deal with it. Because it can be terrifying.
Recently as mine gets stronger and stronger, even I – as someone who teaches on this – am seeking resources to learn how to better control and understand it as I feel way out of my depth sometimes with this energy that is surging through me.
I keep being told ‘you are safe’ and that my experiences are directly so I can teach, share, and warn others of its adverse effects. But that doesn’t make it any less frightening and overwhelming at times. Particularly as most people have zero understanding of what it is and are oblivious as to what I’m going through. This can be quite isolating and make me feel like I’m losing my mind.
If your kundalini is not active, please, do not try to stir it prematurely unless you are equipped to deal with everything that goes along with it.
